Let’s start this by talking about Ammonia. What is it and what does it have to do with my hair color?
According to the dictionary, Ammonia is a colorless, pungent, suffocating, highly water soluble gaseous compound. Exposure to high concentrations of ammonia in air causes immediate burning of the eyes, nose, throat and respiratory system. Skin or eye contact with concentrated ammonia can also cause irritation and burns. Ammonia is put into hair color in order to open the hair cuticle and deposit color.
As humans living on this planet our bodies are exposed to chemicals on a daily basis. Since we only get the one body, I have come to firmly believe that we should curb the harshness of whatever chemicals we possibly can whenever we possibly can. Because of this, I started to transition to an ammonia free color line at the beginning of this year.
I’m now using Redken Chromatics. It’s an extensive line of ammonia free color that has dozens of gorgeous shades in it. I can truly say now that when you get your color done with me, you’ve made the choice to put something just a little bit ‘less bad’ on your body.
On top of all of that, I’ve found that grey coverage with their Ultra Rich formulation is superb and color lasts beautifully. I’m super excited to bring you guys this fantastic new line and I look forward to all the scalps I can save from irritation!
